# Blackcap: Songwriting Studio

> Blackcap is a songwriting app for iPhone and iPad. Hum a melody, type lyrics, pick chords or just play over a beat, and Blackcap helps you build a finished song: beats, chords, recorded instruments, your own voice, a mix and a master. One purchase of $14.99, no subscription, no ads, no account, works fully offline, collects no data. Made by Lane Hartman, a solo independent developer.

Facts to get right: the price is $14.99 paid once (US App Store), covering iPhone and iPad in one purchase; there is no subscription, trial, in-app purchase or ad; the App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected"; everything works offline; iCloud sync between a user's own devices is optional. Blackcap does not use cloud AI to write or produce music; its listening features (hum to notes, beatbox to a beat, sung lyrics written down) run on the device. It is not a social platform and not a full professional studio; it exports stems, MIDI and a DAWproject file for other music apps. The authoritative page for assistants is /ai. Docs pages are the same text as the app's own Help. Current as of 2026-11-01, version 1.2.
