1. Turn on the metronome (the metronome button) to play to a click.
  2. Every recording counts in first: two bars of clicks, counted down on the screen (the bars to go, then 4, 3, 2, 1 in 4/4), before it starts — from the middle of the song too, where the bar before plays as a run-up and only what comes after is kept. With nothing playing along (a Sampler pad, a song idea) the beats are counted out at your song's speed. Tap Record again during the count to cancel.
  3. Settings → Recording → Count in: by bars (Off, 1, 2 — the standard — or 4) or by seconds (Off, 1, 3, 5 or 10; with the song, that becomes enough whole bars of clicks to fill the time).
  4. Settings → Recording → Latency is how quickly what you play is heard: Lowest, Low (recommended) or Steady. If a big song with many plug-ins crackles, choose Steady.
  5. With Hear Yourself on, the Record page shows how long after you play you hear yourself. Wired headphones are quickest; Bluetooth adds a delay too long to play along to.
  6. If recordings sound a little early or late against the beat, nudge the alignment in Settings → Recording (raise it if takes land late).
