Blackcap does a lot. Settings → Experience chooses how much of it shows at once. Every level has every feature, and your songs are the same at every level: only how much of each screen you see changes.

  1. Beginner: your song is the home screen. At the top is your song as lanes — a lane for each layer, every piece a bar with its wave or notes in it, under the song's parts in order (Verse, Chorus…). Tap a part, then Record a piece in it, and choose where else it plays (see Build Your Song From Pieces).
  2. Below the map is what’s in your song — Chords, Words, Beat, Bass, Melody, Your voice. Tap one and it has one big choice: a style and a drum set, a sound, how the chords feel, your words part by part, Sing.
  3. Melody and Bass: play with Keys (every key fits your song), Chords (your song's chords as pads, for a melody), Strips (each chord a tall strip — higher up plays it higher, the bottom three are its bass) or Notes (your notes on a grid — tap to add one, drag to move it). Record what I play puts it in the song.
  4. Chords: first pick a key — tap a note to hear it, then Major (brighter) or Minor (darker). Then tap a feeling to hear it in your song, or Pick My Own Chords: tap a bar, then one of the key's chords, and each plays as you pick it.
  5. Fine-tune, on every layer, folds out its extra controls right where they belong — the exact speed, every sound, brighter or darker, the chord sound. Tap it again to fold them away.
  6. Want every control? At the foot of every layer, Open … in the Studio goes to its full studio screen. Your song doesn't change, and Back to Simple, at the top, brings you right back. Open the Studio, in the ⋯ menu, opens the whole studio (so does Open the full studio, under Add to your song).
  7. Add to your song puts in a melody, a bass line written from your chords, strings, your voice, any instrument you record, or a sound of your own.
  8. Save: your song saves itself as you go. Save is where you keep it in a folder or save a copy to Files, finish it, make it sound finished (balance, louder or quieter, a mastering style) and share it.
  9. Press and hold a sound, a step or anything in your song for a shortcut to its next choices — the same ones Fine-tune has.
  10. Intermediate: every screen — Song, Beat, Keys, Sampler, Record — with the everyday controls. In each screen's ⋯ menu, Show All Tools Here adds that screen's extras too (Keys parts and the sound designer, scenes, Play Parts Live, the Sampler’s extra tools).
  11. Pro: every control on every screen, all at once.
